[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 6th that it has signed an agreement with the taxi industry to establish a demand-responsive integrated mobility service platform. On the same day, Hyundai Motor signed a "Strategic Partnership Agreement (MOU) for Demand-Responsive Integrated MaaS Platform and Taxi Industry Development" at the National Taxi Federation Hall in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Song Changhyun, President of Hyundai Motor's TaaS Division, and Park Bokgyu, Chairman of the National Taxi Transport Business Association Federation, attended the event.
This MOU was promoted to expand the service of Hyundai Motor's demand-responsive mobility platform, "Shucle," and to build an integrated MaaS platform. Both parties plan to cooperate to promote the sustainable development of the taxi industry within the platform ecosystem.
Hyundai Motor plans to build a system that connects taxis to the Shucle platform, which links demand-responsive transport (DRT) services compatible with public transportation transfers and shared personal mobility, allowing customers to use a wider variety of transportation modes through a single Shucle app.
In particular, during this process, Hyundai Motor will establish systems that enable the taxi industry to generate revenue, such as free taxi call services and integrated fare plans, and prepare various win-win measures including supporting the launch of new services and business model development for the taxi industry.
Kim Sooyoung, Executive Director of Hyundai Motor's MCS LAB, said, "We aim to complete an integrated MaaS platform together with Hyundai Motor's Shucle platform, which has the best DRT technology and experience in Korea, and taxi operators nationwide," adding, "Hyundai Motor will continue to discover business opportunities with traditional transportation operators and provide customers with safe and convenient freedom of movement."
Chairman Park said, "The taxi industry, which has maintained a close cooperative relationship with Hyundai Motor, will open a new horizon in the transportation industry through this MOU," and added, "In particular, by continuing a strong partnership in the platform market including Shucle's DRT service and MaaS business, it is expected to greatly contribute to the co-growth of the taxi industry, such as creating added value."
The Shucle service is currently operating in Sejong City and Paju City, Gyeonggi Province. Hyundai Motor plans to expand the service area nationwide through consultations with various local governments.
