[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Wanyong] Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) announced on the 6th that it held the ‘1st LH Small Library Competition’ on the 2nd at the Seoul Women and Family Foundation Art Hall Bom.
On the 2nd, LH held the "1st LH Small Library Competition" to evaluate the activities of the Small Library Revitalization Project and to share various activities.
The LH Small Library Competition was held as part of the project to revitalize small libraries installed within LH rental housing complexes, aiming to select outstanding cases of small library operations and community manager activities in 2022.
In January, applications were accepted from small library operation complexes nationwide, and on the day of the event, one grand prize, two gold prizes, and three silver prizes were awarded through voting and judging.
The grand prize was awarded to Central Village (10-year public rental) in Changwon, Gyeongnam. This complex, under the theme ‘Space + People, Connected Happiness,’ led various activities by residents within the complex last year and facilitated collaboration with local governments and NGOs.
The small library revitalization service transforms existing low-usage libraries within complexes into resident-centered, life-close complex cultural spaces, and operates support centers to provide comprehensive consulting from library opening to operation.
It was piloted in 2018, and last year, 237 complexes received operational support through the revitalization project.
The event was attended by about 200 people, including Ha Seungho, Head of LH National Housing Welfare Headquarters, Jeong Giwon, Chairman of the Korea Small Library Association, LH small library directors, and community managers.
Head Ha Seungho said, “In small libraries, various and enjoyable events are held through active participation and volunteering by residents,” adding, “We will continue systematic support so that LH small libraries can be a medium where residents comfortably interact and bring vitality to the complexes.”
