[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province saved approximately 2.23 billion KRW in budget last year by utilizing drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) in various provincial government policy projects.

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 6th that last year, drones were deployed in a total of 605 projects, including ▲192 cases (31.7%) of site management ▲112 cases (18.5%) of cultural heritage ▲76 cases (12.6%) of review materials ▲76 cases (12.6%) of illegal activity monitoring ▲75 cases (12.4%) of cadastral field ▲74 cases (12.2%) of promotional materials, resulting in a budget reduction of 2.23 billion KRW.

Since May 2018, the province has hired four experts holding ultralight aircraft pilot licenses and designated the Spatial Information Drone Team of the Land Information Division as the dedicated drone filming department. They directly shoot and edit drone footage for provincial government tasks.

The service cost for drone footage is 1 million KRW per case for general videos and 5.45 million KRW per case for 3D videos (orthophotos).

Oh Chang-seon, head of the Spatial Information Drone Team, stated, "This year, we plan to support provincial government tasks by providing drone footage for urban regeneration projects, management of the 3rd new town sites, disaster and emergency situations, etc. We will strive to assist rapid policy decisions in each department."
