Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police, Quarterly Customized Crackdown on Illegal Waste Activities The Gyeonggi-do Special Judicial Police for Public Welfare will conduct quarterly customized crackdowns on illegal disposal of business waste this year.

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will conduct quarterly customized crackdowns on illegal activities related to workplace waste this year.

Earlier, the Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police conducted a survey among residents last year on areas needing strengthened crackdowns, and the environmental (waste) sector was selected as the top priority.

The Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police will especially carry out tailored crackdowns on illegal waste activities this year, considering the seasonal characteristics of such violations.

Accordingly, they will implement quarterly customized crackdowns such as ▲illegal incineration and various illegal waste filling and landfill disguised as farmland topsoil in winter (1st quarter) ▲illegal disposal of construction waste due to increased construction projects in spring (2nd quarter) ▲improper disposal of animal residues due to increased chicken consumption in summer (3rd quarter) ▲unauthorized abandonment of waste by scrap dealers and recycling companies in autumn (4th quarter).

The Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police will also actively utilize public interest reports from residents. Additionally, they will conduct advance public announcements for crime prevention and post-investigation briefings on results.

Hong Eun-gi, head of the Provincial Civil Life Special Judicial Police Unit, emphasized, "This year-round investigation into illegal workplace waste activities will approach with both existing and changed investigative methods, and through joint crackdowns with city and county authorities, we will do our best to improve residents' satisfaction and eradicate illegal workplace waste activities."

Meanwhile, illegal waste activities in the province decreased from 213 cases in 2021 to 150 cases in 2022.
