[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter An Kyungho] The representative summer festival of Ulleung-gun, Gyeongbuk, the Squid Festival, and the Snow Festival held for the first time in 14 years this year were selected in the designated festival and Miseak (微色) festival contest conducted by Gyeongbuk Province.
Namhan-gwon, the governor of Ulleung County, is delivering a greeting to residents and tourists at the Ulleungdo Snow Festival site.
The designated festival and Miseak festival contest is a project that designates excellent festivals among 85 festivals held in Gyeongbuk, focusing on well-established and high-quality city and county festivals, and fosters and supports them as cultural tourism resources. The Gyeongbuk Province Regional Festival Review Committee selected the festivals after evaluating 13 items including festival content, organizational capability, and safety management system.
The judges commented that the Ulleungdo Snow Festival, which is held with natural snow rather than artificial snow, is quite attractive and has a high potential to develop into a representative winter festival of Korea if it continues to operate with various items like the Sapporo Snow Festival.
With the launch of the Ulleung cruise increasing winter tourists and enabling stable winter tourism, the need for winter products arose. Accordingly, the Ulleungdo Snow Festival was held from February 3 to 5, 2023, around the Nari Basin area of Ulleungdo for the first time in 14 years.
Nam Han-kwon, the county governor, said, “As Ulleungdo becomes a year-round tourist destination, we will develop tourism products that can provide tourists with various attractions and enjoyable experiences.”
