[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has urgently allocated 20 billion KRW in heating expenses to frontline cities and counties to protect vulnerable groups and has begun encouraging prompt expenditure.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 5th that, just five days after Governor Kim Dong-yeon revealed plans to invest 20 billion KRW to support heating costs for households with disabled members through the "Emergency Support Measures for Heating-Vulnerable Groups," it allocated 19.8 billion KRW in subsidies to 31 cities and counties within the province on the 31st of last month.
The province is monitoring the execution status of heating expense payments by cities and counties daily.
As of the 3rd, the cumulative expenditure of the 31 cities and counties amounted to 7.6 billion KRW, which is 68.5% of the first installment of 11.1 billion KRW for January heating costs. The cities and counties that have completed the first installment payments include ▲Yongin City (319 million KRW) ▲Namyangju City (680 million KRW) ▲Uijeongbu City (454 million KRW) ▲Icheon City (308 million KRW), among 12 others.
The province plans to encourage the relevant cities and counties to complete the January heating cost support by the 10th of this month.
By target group, 400,000 KRW was paid per homeless shelter and cold wave shelter senior center. The province also plans to complete the execution of the second installment of 8.7 billion KRW by early next month.
Earlier, on the 26th of last month, Governor Kim Dong-yeon announced the "Emergency Support Measures for Heating-Vulnerable Groups" via his social media (SNS), stating, "We will do our best to ensure that no residents are threatened in health or survival due to the cold wave and heating cost shock," focusing on providing heating cost support to vulnerable groups such as the elderly, disabled, and homeless.
