China Supplies Military Equipment to Russia Supporting Ukraine Invasion

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] It has been revealed that China has been supporting Russia's invasion of Ukraine by supplying military equipment, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on the 4th (local time).

According to WSJ, an analysis of Russian customs data received from the Washington-based nonprofit organization C4ADS confirmed that Chinese state-owned defense companies have been exporting navigation equipment, jamming technology, fighter jet parts, and more to Russian state-owned defense companies.

WSJ reported that these items are only a portion of the tens of thousands of dual-use goods China has exported to Russia.

Specifically, the Chinese state-owned defense company 'Poly Technologies' exported navigation devices for the M-17 military helicopter to the Russian state military equipment company 'JSC Rosoboronexport' on August 31 last year.

Dual-use refers to goods that can be diverted for military purposes, with semiconductors, essential for modern warfare, being a representative example of dual-use goods.

WSJ reported that most of the dual-use goods purchased by Russia were of Chinese origin.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken was scheduled to discuss China's support for Russia during his planned visit to China on the 5th and 6th. However, Blinken's visit has been indefinitely postponed due to the Chinese reconnaissance balloon incident.
