12 People Onboard, 3 Rescued So Far

[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Kim Seong-ho, Director of the Disaster Safety Management Headquarters at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, on the 5th, instructed Jeonnam Province, Sinan-gun, and related agencies such as the Coast Guard and Navy to mobilize all available resources to the fullest extent to rescue survivors in connection with the fishing boat capsizing accident that occurred off the coast of Imjado, Sinan-gun, Jeonnam.

Director Kim also emphasized paying special attention to the safety of rescue workers and urged the assignment of dedicated public officials to the victims and their families to provide conveniences such as explaining the accident details and rescue status.


At around 11:19 PM the previous day, a report was received by the Mokpo Coast Guard that a 24-ton coastal trap fishing boat had capsized 16 km northwest off Daebichi Island, Jaewon-ri, Imja-myeon, Sinan-gun, Jeonnam. There were 12 people on board, and so far, 3 have been rescued. The Coast Guard and Navy are searching for the other passengers.
