Choi Ho-kwon, Yeongdeungpo District Mayor, Attends Sin-gil 3-dong Jeongwol Daeboreum Folk Event and Plays Yutnori with Residents



[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, attended the Jeongwol Daeboreum folk event in Sin-gil 3-dong on the morning of the 4th and enjoyed playing Yutnori with residents.


The Yeongdeungpo District Jeongwol Daeboreum events are held over two days, the 4th and 5th, across 18 neighborhoods. In particular, the Yangpyeong 1-dong Jeongwol Daeboreum event features a variety of attractions such as burning the Daljip (moon house), LED mouse fire play, fireworks, and hanging wish papers, along with traditional folk games like kite flying and Tuho (arrow throwing).


Mayor Choi Ho-kwon said, “At the Jeongwol Daeboreum folk event held for the first time in four years since the COVID-19 pandemic, we strengthened harmony with residents and earnestly wished for the health and prosperity of the district citizens in the new year.”

Jungnang District (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) announced that it held the ‘Daeboreum Village Festival,’ where functional organizations from 16 neighborhoods gathered with residents to promote harmony in celebration of Jeongwol Daeboreum.


The ‘Daeboreum Village Festival,’ held for the first time in three years, took place over three days from the 3rd to the 5th across all 16 neighborhoods.


During the event, traditional folk games such as Yutnori, pumpkin breaking, Tuho, and rice cake pounding were enjoyed by people of all ages. Additionally, some neighborhoods hosted lively side events including Nanta performances, Samulnori (traditional percussion), and singing contests, enhancing the festive atmosphere.


Moreover, each organization served Jeongwol Daeboreum foods such as five-grain rice to the citizens, providing a warm opportunity to share neighborly affection.


Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi of Jungnang District said, “I am pleased that a meaningful event was prepared for local residents to enjoy and continue traditional culture together in celebration of the national holiday Jeongwol Daeboreum. I hope everyone shares strong bonds with neighbors, drives away misfortune, and has a year full of good luck.”

Lee Soo-hee, Mayor of Gangdong District, celebrated the first full moon of the new year on February 1st by hosting the ‘2023 Jeongwol Daeboreum Folk Game Event,’ playing traditional folk games with residents and fostering harmony.


This folk game event, held for the first time in four years since the COVID-19 pandemic suspension, is an annual folk festival enjoyed by Gangdong residents. Various traditional folk games such as Yutnori and Jegichagi (shuttlecock kicking) were held from February 1st in Cheonho 3-dong through the 6th across 18 neighborhoods in Gangdong District.


Mayor Lee Soo-hee said, “I am glad that the folk game event is held again after four years, and I hope many residents participate to inherit our unique seasonal customs and share warmth with neighbors in this meaningful occasion.”

Park Kang-soo, Mapo District Mayor, Attends ‘Gwangheungdang Jeongwol Daeboreum Folk Games’ to Promote Resident Harmony



Park Kang-soo, Mayor of Mapo District, attended the ‘Gwangheungdang Jeongwol Daeboreum Folk Games’ on the afternoon of the 4th to pray for the development of Mapo and the well-being of families, and to promote harmony among residents, enjoying a joyful time together.


Hosted by the Mapo Cultural Center, about 200 people including Mayor Park Kang-soo, local residents, and cultural heritage officials participated in the event, enjoying folk games such as Yutnori, Tuho, and Jegichagi, fostering meaningful harmony among residents.


Mayor Park Kang-soo said, “I am pleased that the Jeongwol Daeboreum folk game event was held for the first time since the outbreak of COVID-19, allowing me to spend a joyful time with residents. On this first full moon day after Lunar New Year, I wish all Mapo citizens a prosperous and successful year.”

Dobong District Holds Jeongwol Daeboreum Moon Viewing Festival, Praying for the ‘Health’ and ‘Happiness’ of Dobong Citizens



Dobong District (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) held the Jeongwol Daeboreum Moon Viewing Festival on February 3rd near Dobong District Office by Jungnang Stream (in front of Seowon Apartment Building 105, Dobong 2-dong).


The festival began with a street parade by local artists’ pungmul (traditional percussion) group, followed by diverse celebratory performances including Daechwita (royal military music), Nanjang pungmul, B-boy dance, and professional performance troupe shows. Then, Mayor Oh Eon-seok read a prayer to mark the start of the Daljip event, culminating in the highlight of the festival: burning the Daljip and fireworks.


Mayor Oh Eon-seok said, “This year marks the 50th anniversary of Dobong District’s establishment and is a significant year for the full-scale implementation of key projects under the 8th elected administration. We will vigorously advance toward a city of new future, change, and growth.”


He added, “I hope the new year will revive the local economy, bring smiles to everyone’s faces, and create a warm Dobong District where no one is left out. I wish health and happiness to all 310,000 Dobong citizens and their families, and hope this year will be meaningful with all wishes fulfilled.”

Yangcheon District’s Jeongwol Daeboreum Moon Viewing Festival Successfully Concludes


Lee Ki-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon District, attended the ‘21st Yangcheon District Jeongwol Daeboreum Moon Viewing Festival’ held at the 2nd Anyangcheon Baseball Stadium on the afternoon of the 4th, celebrating the first event in four years by ward residents to ward off misfortune and pray for abundant blessings throughout the year.


The festival opened at 2 p.m. with a street parade (pungmul performance) and was filled with various special performances, neighborhood markets offering delicious food, folk game experience zones, and a Ganggangsullae (traditional circle dance) gathering, providing a serene opportunity to experience traditional Korean culture.


Especially notable was the ‘Daljip Burning,’ the highlight of the festival, featuring a 15-meter-high Daljip, the largest in Seoul, attracting attention. On this day, Mayor Lee also burned over 1,500 wish papers written by residents during the New Year’s Day sunrise event at Yongwangsan Mountain, praying for the happiness and peace of the citizens. The fantastic fireworks lighting up the winter night beautifully concluded the Yangcheon Jeongwol Daeboreum Festival.


Mayor Lee Ki-jae said, “I am truly happy that a place for communication and harmony where all Yangcheon residents can enjoy together was prepared for Jeongwol Daeboreum after a long time. Let us send all misfortune to the Daljip here today and work together to create a Yangcheon full of happiness and good fortune.”


Meanwhile, about 200 personnel including police, Marine Corps veterans association members, volunteers, and public officials were deployed on-site to ensure order and safety.

Oh Seung-rok, Nowon District Mayor, Attends 2023 Jeongwol Daeboreum Folk Festival


Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, attended the 2023 Jeongwol Daeboreum Folk Festival held in the Danghyeoncheon area on the evening of the 4th.


Organized by Nowon Nori Madang and sponsored by Nowon District Office, this event was prepared to restore community spirit by enjoying traditional culture with residents in celebration of Jeongwol Daeboreum.


On this day, Mayor Oh Seung-rok experienced various seasonal customs with residents visiting Danghyeoncheon, and from 7 p.m., participated in the main events including the rope fire play, ritual offerings, and Daljip burning, praying for a year of abundance.


Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “We prepared an event to celebrate Jeongwol Daeboreum with residents. I sincerely wish everyone a prosperous year as big and bright as the full moon.”
