Support for accident damage coverage through various insurance subscriptions such as resident safety insurance, bicycle insurance, and electric mobility device insurance

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) has launched various support measures in 2023 to prioritize resident safety and prepare for various safety accidents.

To protect flood-vulnerable groups and minimize damage, flood prevention facilities and operable security windows will be installed in disaster-vulnerable households such as semi-basements before the rainy season.

The district plans to install over 10,000 water-blocking panels and more than 18,000 indoor backflow prevention valves in about 4,900 semi-basement houses and over 2,000 small stores that suffered flood damage last August.

Operable security windows were first installed in December last year in 22 semi-basement houses occupied by people with disabilities. This year, about 600 households in semi-basement houses inhabited by vulnerable groups such as seniors aged 65 and older and children under 13 will receive installations.

Additionally, for the first time this year, various safety insurances will be subscribed for residents to ensure prompt compensation and measures for accidents of all sizes.

Support is provided for subscribing to ‘Electric Mobility Device Insurance’ for people with disabilities and seniors aged 65 and older. From January 20, for one year, this insurance covers bodily injury and property damage compensation for accidents occurring while operating electric mobility devices such as electric wheelchairs.

‘Gwanak-gu Resident Bicycle Insurance’ is also operated. Considering the recent increase in bicycle use as an eco-friendly transportation method, from February 10 for one year, coverage includes injury diagnosis lump sums, hospitalization consolation payments, fines due to accidents, and traffic accident handling support for accidents occurring while riding a bicycle or caused by a bicycle.

Starting in March, all Gwanak-gu residents will be enrolled in the ‘Gwanak-gu Resident Safety Insurance’ for one year without separate subscription procedures or fees. Considering the district’s regional characteristics, coverage items such as injuries caused by natural disasters are detailed to help residents quickly return to daily life after accidents.

Furthermore, to prevent traffic accidents recently occurring in school zones, the district operates 34 units of an ‘Illegal Parking Prevention System’ using IoT technology with speakers and solar-powered LEDs at 16 locations, carefully managing traffic safety.

A district official stated, “This year, we will prioritize resident safety, prevent safety accidents in advance, and focus administrative efforts across all departments to ensure residents receive appropriate protection and support in case of accidents.”
