[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] Medical artificial intelligence (AI) technology specialist company AITRICS announced on the 3rd that its emergency situation prediction solution 'VitalCare (AITRICS-VC)' will enter the non-reimbursable market starting from the 1st of next month, following the revision and issuance of the Ministry of Health and Welfare's notice.
According to the partial revision of the Ministry of Health and Welfare's 'Evaluation Exemption New Medical Technology Notice,' the exemption period for the new medical technology evaluation of VitalCare is from the 1st of next month until February 28, 2025. VitalCare can be used in medical clinical settings for about three years, including a two-year evaluation exemption and up to 250 days of new medical technology evaluation according to the 'Regulations on New Medical Technology Evaluation.'
From the 1st of next month, hospitals that have introduced VitalCare will be able to charge non-reimbursable fees with patient consent based on the number of usage days for risk monitoring activities such as ▲predicting acute severe events like death, ICU transfer, and cardiac arrest that may occur within 6 hours in general wards ▲predicting sepsis that may occur within 4 hours in general wards ▲predicting death that may occur within 6 hours in the ICU.
VitalCare analyzes a total of 19 types of data, including vital signs, blood test results, consciousness level, and patient age, to accurately assess abnormal signs and predict emergencies early. Notably, VitalCare is the first and only solution in Korea to demonstrate predictive performance for sepsis, death, and unexpected ICU transfers within general wards, as well as death prediction performance within the ICU.
Kwangjun Kim, CEO of AITRICS, said, “The introduction of VitalCare is expected to help save patients' lives by enabling medical staff to take proactive measures through early prediction of various emergency situations such as sepsis and death in medical settings.” He added, “We will strive to accumulate clinical evidence for VitalCare’s entry into the health insurance reimbursement system and strengthen our position in the field of vital signs to save more patients' lives.”
