MBK Scholarship Foundation Completes Selection of 15 Students for 16th Cohort

Maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher per semester
Full tuition support until completion of studies

[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] The MBK Scholarship Foundation has selected a total of 15 prospective university students as the 16th batch of scholarship recipients.

Amid hundreds of applicants for this scholarship selection, four interviewers, including Chairman Kim Byung-joo of MBK Partners, who is also the foundation's chairman, conducted in-depth interviews with about 30 candidates who passed the document screening and finalized the scholarship recipients.

The selected scholars were evenly chosen from various regions and universities. The regional distribution includes 3 from Seoul, 3 from Gyeonggi·Incheon, 2 from Gyeongsang Province, 3 from Jeolla Province, 1 from Gangwon Province, and 2 from Jeju Island. The universities include Korea University, Dongshin University, Sogang University, Seoul National University, Sungkyunkwan University, Yonsei University, and Korea National University of Arts. The fields of study are 7 in humanities and social sciences, 6 in science and engineering, and 2 in arts and physical education.

The MBK Scholarship Foundation does not impose any conditions on scholarship support, but recipients must pledge to inherit and practice the foundation’s value of ‘Pay it forward’ (those who receive help should return that help to society).

Chairman Kim Byung-joo said, “During the interviews, we were deeply moved by the story of a scholar who, despite battling illness, pursued studies in history with unwavering determination. I hope that the scholars, who have not given up their passion for learning despite difficulties, will focus on their fields after entering university and keep the promises they made to become future leaders in various sectors of society.”

With the selection of 15 scholars this year, the total number of MBK scholars has increased to 185.

Established by a personal endowment from Chairman Kim Byung-joo, the MBK Scholarship Foundation does not discriminate based on the applicant’s gender, region of origin, intended university, or major. Applicants who have excellent academic records and potential as future leaders despite difficult living and academic environments are eligible to apply.

The MBK Scholarship Foundation fully supports the admission fees for selected scholars and covers full tuition fees until graduation if a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher is maintained. In addition to textbook expenses, academic encouragement allowances are provided each semester to eligible recipients.
