Joint Workshop of the National Pension Fund Management Committee Held

[Asia Economy Reporter Park So-yeon] The Ministry of Health and Welfare held a joint workshop of the National Pension Fund Management Committee on the 2nd at The Westin Chosun Seoul.

This workshop was organized to review the fund management status and discuss the fund management outlook and direction for this year amid the recent deterioration of macroeconomic indicators and the expanding instability in the financial market.

It is the first time since the committee was established in 1988 that all committees related to the National Pension Fund management gathered in one place. About 80 people attended, including members of the National Pension Fund Management Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Fund Committee), its subordinate Practical Evaluation Committee, and three specialized committees.

At the event, Park Seok-gil, an economist at JP Morgan Chase Bank, was invited to give a lecture on "Global and Korean Macroeconomic Outlook and Implications for the National Pension Fund."

Afterwards, Lee Seuran, Director of the National Pension Policy Bureau, reported on the "2023 Fund Management Committee Operation Plan," and Seo Won-ju, Head of the Fund Management Headquarters, presented the "Fund Management Headquarters Work Plan," followed by discussions on future operational directions.

Cho Kyu-hong, Minister of Health and Welfare, attended the event and stated, "It is more important than anything else to enhance public trust in fund management to increase the sustainability of the National Pension system. We will strive to improve long-term returns by expanding investments in overseas and alternative assets, while securing excellent personnel to build management capabilities that can compete with advanced overseas pension funds."
