Im Dong-jun, former vice president of Dongyang Confectionery (now Orion) and a key figure behind the creation of Orion's major snack products such as Choco Pie, Whale Snack, and Choco Song-i, passed away on the 31st of last month at the age of 80.

In the 1970s, he worked as a production manager during the development of Orion's Choco Pie, overseeing product manufacturing. Choco Pie, once a national pie that saved Dongyang Confectionery from bankruptcy, continues to be beloved by consumers to this day.

Born in 1942 in Wolseong, Gyeongbuk, he graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Agricultural Chemistry and joined Dongyang Confectionery in the mid-1960s as a technical staff member. Colleagues who worked with him remember that he played a crucial role in enabling full-scale production through the Choco Pie development ideas that came from the research institute.

He later served as head of the research institute, factory manager, and executive director in charge of technology, and was involved in the development of several products including Squid Peanut, Whale Snack, and Choco Song-i. In 1993, he was appointed vice president in charge of technology development and the research institute, and retired in 1996 after serving as vice president.

The funeral is being held at Samsung Seoul Hospital Funeral Hall, Room 19, with the departure scheduled for 7:30 AM on the 3rd.
