[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Park Wansu, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, visited the Sacheon district of the Gyeongnam Aviation National Industrial Complex on the afternoon of the 30th to check the preparation status for the establishment of a space industry cluster.

Gyeongnam Province plans to create a satellite-specialized zone within the space industry cluster centered on the Aviation National Industrial Complex to concentrate space companies.

To foster the space industry, the Sacheon district will establish a Satellite Manufacturing Innovation Center to support research and development, manufacturing, and commercialization of space companies, and the Jinju district plans to install a space environment testing facility that can simulate and test essential space environments on the ground during the satellite manufacturing process.

According to the province, on that day, Governor Park received an on-site report on the progress of the Aviation National Industrial Complex development and the plan to establish the satellite-specialized zone within the space industry cluster.

He instructed to thoroughly prepare at the provincial level to ensure the successful establishment of the space industry cluster.

“Install satellite development and manufacturing equipment and facilities that companies can jointly use in the Satellite Manufacturing Innovation Center, and create a large-scale convention space to build it as a top-tier facility where core companies in the space sector can move in,” he said.

He continued, “Since the government has confirmed the opening of the Space Aviation Agency within this year, promptly prepare candidate sites for the agency’s building and devote full efforts to regional preparations such as creating an administrative complex town to improve residential conditions.”

“Careful prior preparations are also necessary for temporary offices and employee accommodations so that work can begin simultaneously with the opening of the Space Aviation Agency,” he added.

Ahn Taemyeong, Director of the Provincial Balanced Development Bureau, responded, “We will actively cooperate with the Ministry of Science and ICT, the supervising department, and prepare thoroughly to ensure the smooth opening of the Space Aviation Agency and the establishment of the space industry cluster.”
