[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City is working on discovering return gifts for the successful settlement of the 'Gohyang Sarang Donation System.'
Since May last year, Dong-gu has formed the ‘Gohyang Sarang TF Preparation Team’ to take strategic steps such as system improvement and developing promotional plans.
At the end of last year, through the return gift selection committee, 21 return gift items reflecting Dong-gu’s unique characteristics were finally selected.
The final selected return gifts include products produced by local and social enterprises such as ▲Gungjeon Bakery (bakery) ▲Agricultural Corporation Geumchi (kimchi) ▲Mulgogi Coffee Roasters (coffee) ▲Noldi Studio (pebble objects) ▲Dong-gu Regional Self-Support Center (mobile car wash coupons), expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy.
Among them, the Dong-gu Regional Self-Support Center’s ‘mobile car wash coupon’ has been praised as a ‘urban-type return gift’ that serves three purposes: promoting the Gohyang Sarang Donation System, providing practical return gifts to donors living in the district, and helping low-income residents.
On the 31st, Lim Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “Just like Japan’s ‘Hometown Tax,’ which started 15 years earlier than us and went through numerous trials and errors to achieve a success story today, the ultimate goal of the Gohyang Sarang Donation System is not ‘competition’ but ‘coexistence.’”
He added, “We will do our best to ensure that donors feel that ‘donating to Dong-gu is trustworthy not only for return gifts but also for fund-linked projects for regional development.’”
