Jeonnam Fire Department Operates 'Video Emergency Treatment Guidance' Service for Stroke Patients

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Kim Joil) announced on the 31st that it will pilot the 'Video Emergency Treatment Guidance' service for suspected stroke patients for five months starting February 1.

Stroke is a representative time-sensitive disease (surgery within 3 hours) where early treatment reduces mortality, and early detection and rapid transport have an absolute impact on patient prognosis.

This measure reflects the conditions of Jeonnam, which has many island areas and a limited number of hospitals capable of treating strokes.

First, when the 119 call reception stage recognizes a suspected stroke patient, it switches to a video call.

After confirming the patient's main symptoms, emergency treatment methods are guided to the caller via video until the 119 ambulance arrives at the scene.

Also, information about the patient and hospitals capable of treatment is provided to the 119 ambulance en route to assist in the patient's rapid treatment and transport.

Jeonnam Fire conducted special training courses including simulation practice for emergency call managers and paramedics for three days starting on the 25th, ahead of the full implementation on February 1.

Kim Joil, Chief of the Fire Headquarters, said, "Stroke, like cardiac arrest, requires early recognition and rapid response," and added, "We will strive to provide fire services that residents can trust from the moment of the 119 call."
