Samsung Kiosk Featuring Intel CPU and Windows OS Unveiled

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Samsung Electronics announced on the 31st that it will participate in 'ISE 2023,' Europe's largest display exhibition, and unveil new digital signage products.

From today until the 3rd of next month, Samsung Electronics will set up the largest exhibition booth among participants, covering 1,728㎡ (approximately 522 pyeong), at the exhibition held in Barcelona, Spain. They will showcase eco-friendly smart signage and platforms, various outdoor signage, and kiosks equipped with the Windows operating system (OS).

Jung Hoon, Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Visual Display Business Division, said, "Sustainability and environmental preservation are the most important issues in the commercial display market as well," adding, "As an industry leader, we will continue to introduce sustainable products and technologies and lead changes for a better future."

First, eco-friendly efforts throughout the product lifecycle?from materials, production, packaging, use, to disposal?will be prominently introduced at the exhibition. Using Samsung Electronics' eco-friendly commercial display products naturally encourages participation in resource circulation enhancement. They will introduce the 2023 Smart Signage Q Series and the 'MagicINFO' solution with enhanced remote management functions.

The 2023 Smart Signage Q Series has a screen thickness of 28.5mm, about 40% thinner than its predecessor. This reduces the number of containers needed for logistics after production by more than 20%. It is equipped with an illuminance sensor that automatically adjusts screen brightness according to ambient light, meaning power consumption can be efficiently managed. Approximately 10% of the rear cover is made from PCM material recycled plastic. All lineups meet the Energy Star standards of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

MagicINFO is a cloud-based device and content management platform. It has been optimized for the usage environment of signage operation managers by enhancing remote management functions. The remote management function also supports a 'Device Health' feature, which allows real-time device control, screen brightness adjustment, and monitoring of cable connections, device temperature, and network status. It helps minimize unnecessary power consumption.

They will unveil a new signage platform equipped with various energy-saving solutions. The platform will support solutions such as real-time power consumption monitoring, hourly product brightness scheduling, remote brightness adjustment, automatic device inspection, and fault alarms. Samsung Electronics plans to launch a new platform that integrates commercial displays such as signage and TVs within the first half of the year.

A variety of new outdoor products ranging from large to small sizes will be introduced. Large signage is intended for sports and landmarks, while small signage targets the electric vehicle charging station market. The outdoor LED signage comes in four types: P6, P8, P10, and P16, supporting a maximum brightness of 8,000 nits. It features excellent image quality even under natural sunlight conditions. It is more than twice as thin as previous models, and installation time has been reduced by more than half, enhancing installation convenience.

In particular, it reduces power consumption by more than 15% compared to previous models. It cuts annual carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 2,492 tons, equivalent to planting about 290,000 pine trees. The new outdoor LED signage products will be installed at New York Mets' Citi Field and Houston Astros' Minute Maid Park after the start of the Major League Baseball season in the U.S. this year.

A 24-inch small outdoor signage product will also be introduced. It boasts industry-low power consumption of up to 90W, providing excellent energy-saving effects. It is optimized for environments such as electric vehicle charging stations, where real-time charging information and advertising content are displayed together.

They will also showcase the Windows version of the 'Samsung Kiosk' with improved device compatibility and a new dedicated solution for 'Samsung Flip.' The Windows version of Samsung Kiosk is a product that allows content management and payment without a separate PC. Both ordering and payment can be done with this product. It comes with Windows 10 IoT (Internet of Things) Enterprise as the default operating system. It is equipped with an Intel 11th generation Core processor, 8GB RAM, and 256GB SSD to enhance performance.

The new dedicated solution for Samsung Flip was developed reflecting the needs of corporate and education markets. It is designed to be used seamlessly in work situations requiring connection to various devices. Through the new solution, PCs can be connected to Samsung Flip for work on a large screen. Content or applications stored on the PC can also be used on Samsung Flip. Users can write notes or share in real time on Samsung Flip while using content from other connected devices.
