Miryang City Provides Up to 20 Million KRW Support for Hanok Construction

February 1?28, Recruitment of Eligible Applicants

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Wook] Miryang-si, Gyeongnam (Mayor Park Il-ho) is recruiting applicants for the 2023 Hanok Support Project until the end of February to enhance the historical and cultural value of Hanok, which possesses Korea's unique architectural beauty, and to inherit the disappearing traditional culture.

According to the Miryang-si Hanok Support Ordinance, Hanoks designated and registered as cultural properties under the Cultural Heritage Protection Act and other related laws within the city’s jurisdiction are excluded from this project.

The city plans to provide financial support up to 20 million KRW, covering half of the total construction cost for new Hanok buildings; 10 million KRW for major repairs; and 5 million KRW for minor repairs.

Applicants can submit their application forms and required documents in person to the Architecture and Urban Design Department at City Hall.

The city will fairly evaluate the eligibility for subsidy support and the appropriateness of the support amount based on the submitted documents through the Miryang-si Architecture Committee’s review, and notify the selected applicants individually by March.

A city official stated, “Through the Hanok Support Project, we expect to contribute not only to popularizing Hanok as a future architectural asset of Miryang-si but also to greatly improving residents’ living conditions in Hanok.” He added, “We hope many citizens will show interest and apply for the 2023 Hanok Support Project.”
