"Hard to Work and Want to Rest..."
Internal School Investigation Found No Issues
Normal Classes Continue at the High School Until Afternoon
A current Japanese high school teacher was arrested by local police for making a false bomb threat call to the high school where he works, simply because he wanted to rest instead of working.
On the 26th, local media such as Yomiuri Shimbun and Kansai News reported that Nara Prefectural Police arrested a high school teacher, Mr. A (56), on charges including obstruction of business by intimidation.
Mr. A, who works as a teacher at a commercial high school located in Yamatotakada City, Nara Prefecture, is suspected of making a false report of a bomb threat to the school from a public phone around 8 a.m. on the 25th.
He told another staff member who answered the call, "There might be explosives on the 1st and 3rd floors of the school building and near the gymnasium," adding, "It could be dangerous if classes are not finished by the morning."
In response, the school reported the call to the police and investigated the school premises for any suspicious objects, but no dangerous situation such as bomb placement was confirmed. Subsequently, the police examined CCTV footage near the public phone based on the testimony of the staff member who answered the call, who said, "It sounded like Mr. A's voice."
As a result, the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage captured Mr. A using the public phone at the relevant time and then driving a vehicle into the school. Eventually, during police questioning, Mr. A admitted to the crime, stating, "It was hard to go to work, and I wanted to rest, so I made the call."
Meanwhile, local media reported that classes at the high school proceeded normally until the afternoon on that day.
