Invited to 'The World Government Summit 2023'
Prime Minister's Office Regulatory Reform Committee Presents Korea's Regulatory Innovation Achievements and Cases
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] The Regulatory Reform Committee under the Prime Minister's Office has been invited to 'The World Government Summit 2023' to be held in Dubai in mid-April, where it will present on South Korea's regulatory innovation policy directions and cases of regulatory relaxation in Free Economic Zones.
According to the Prime Minister's Office on the 30th, Kim Jong-seok, Chairperson of the Private Regulatory Reform Committee, will speak at the event to present the Korean government's regulatory innovation cases and the achievements of regulatory reforms in Free Economic Zones (FEZ).
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Prime Minister's Office recently sent an official letter to South Korea's Prime Minister's Office requesting a presentation on South Korea's regulatory reform and innovation cases, as well as the achievements of designating Free Economic Zones. The presentation schedule was confirmed after the Korean government responded positively.
'The World Government Summit' is an annual international event hosted by the UAE Prime Minister's Office that shares the expertise of world-class government institutions with public sector leaders in the Arab region. It is held every year under the theme of government service innovation. As the largest international conference in the Arab world, this year's summit will be held in Dubai from the 13th to the 15th of next month. South Korea previously participated in 2015 with Hwang Woo-yeo, then Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, as a keynote speaker, and Yoon Boo-keun, CEO of Samsung Electronics, as a lecturer.
This year's summit agenda includes ▲ Accelerating Development and Governance ▲ Global Healthcare Systems ▲ Managing Economic Resilience and Connectivity ▲ Global Urban Design and Sustainability.
The Korean government plans to introduce a wide range of topics to the Arab region at this summit, including the Regulatory Sinmungo system revitalized under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, a private-sector-led regulatory reform roadmap, a regulatory tool quality management system, measures to improve economic regulation efficiency, and regulatory innovation within Free Economic Zones to promote foreign investment.
Meanwhile, the Regulatory Reform Committee was launched in 1998 as a public-private joint organization under the Prime Minister's Office during the Kim Dae-jung administration. Its importance has been further strengthened under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration, with the establishment of the Regulatory Innovation Strategy Meeting chaired by the President and the Regulatory Innovation Promotion Team directly under the Prime Minister. It plays a role in pre-reviewing all regulations created by the executive branch. This regulatory reform system is internationally highly regarded for being a 'system-based regulatory reform.'
Previously, the Ministry of Environment also presented South Korea's environmental regulatory innovation cases last December at the 27th OECD Regulatory Policy Committee meeting held in Paris, France, upon invitation.
