Due to the heavy snowfall continuing for several days, passenger ship departures between Ulleung and Pohang were suspended, roads were covered with snow causing traffic control, isolating residents and stranding tourists, resulting in damage. Snow removal work has been ongoing since the snowfall began.

The Ulleung-gun ring road, which had been cut off by the heavy snow, has been restored through rapid snow removal work, and passenger ships that were suspended due to bad weather have resumed normal operation since the 28th.

Lee Kang-deok, Mayor of Pohang, said, “I extend my condolences to the residents of Ulleung-gun suffering from the heavy snowfall and hope that the citizens can overcome the difficulties as soon as possible. We will support our sister city Ulleung-gun in wisely overcoming this disaster.”

Nam Han-kwon, Ulleung-gun Governor, said, “The delivery of consolation goods from Pohang City will be a great encouragement to the volunteers who have worked hard on snow removal. We will continue to cooperate to strengthen the friendly relations between the two regions.”

As part of mutual cooperation and development, last year when Typhoon Hinnamnor caused significant damage to Pohang City, Ulleung-gun delivered disaster recovery donations and supported equipment and manpower for restoring flooded apartment parking lots. Pohang City also sends delegations annually to Ulleung-gun Citizens' Day and the Squid Festival, continuing exchanges to strengthen mutual friendly relations and cooperative development.
