Ulsan City Expands Free Shingles Vaccination to Those Aged 65 and Over

For 1,265 Basic Livelihood Security Recipients in Vulnerable Groups

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Ulsan City will launch the "2023 Free Shingles Vaccination Program for Vulnerable Groups" starting February 1 to reduce the vaccination cost burden for elderly people in vulnerable groups.

The vaccination targets are 1,265 basic livelihood security recipients aged 65 or older (born on or before December 31, 1958) who have been registered residents of Ulsan City for more than one year.

In the first year of the program last year, the target was those aged 75 or older, but this year it has been expanded to those aged 65 or older.

Applicants should bring their ID and certificates (recipient certificate, resident registration abstract) and visit the Family Health Clinic of the Population Health and Welfare Association Ulsan Branch.

However, those who have already been vaccinated or have contraindications to vaccination are excluded.

An official from Ulsan City said, "Although the shingles vaccine is recommended for the elderly, it is classified as non-reimbursable by health insurance, making it financially burdensome for vulnerable groups facing economic difficulties to get vaccinated."

The "Shingles Vaccination Program for Vulnerable Groups" started in 2022, and so far, 1,265 people have been vaccinated.
