[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The detention review petition filed by an official of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC), who was arrested on charges of improperly intervening in the TV Chosun license renewal evaluation process, was dismissed on the 27th.
The Seoul Northern District Court Criminal Appeal Division 1-1 (Presiding Judge Hyejung Moon) held a detention review hearing for KCC Manager Cha on the morning of the same day and dismissed the petition, stating that the detention review request was unfounded.
Earlier, Manager Cha was arrested on the 11th on charges including obstruction of business for informing the final evaluation scores and requesting score sheet modifications while working in the broadcasting policy department during the 2020 comprehensive programming channel license renewal evaluation. Meanwhile, KCC Director Yang, who was also subject to an arrest warrant on the same charges, avoided detention due to insufficient evidence of the charges.
