Water Gushing from New Apartment Ceiling... Disaster Strikes Just Four Months After Move-In

Suspected Burst Water Pipe Due to Cold Wave

As a severe cold wave warning for frozen water pipes was issued, a newly built apartment complex that had just been occupied was not spared from the accident.

According to the construction industry on the 27th, a water pipe burst in a household at 'Geomdan New Town 3rd Dietre River Park' located in Wondang-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon, causing water to pour down like rain from the ceiling.

A similar phenomenon occurred at the first-floor communal entrance door within the complex.

The apartment complex consists of 7 buildings with 722 households, completed in October last year and began occupancy.

Various online communities posted videos titled "Current status of the newly built Geomdan apartment complex that started occupancy in October last year," showing the leakage situation.

In the video, water continuously pours from the kitchen ceiling. Water also flows down the first-floor communal entrance door as if someone is spraying it.

It is presumed that the sprinkler pipes related to firefighting froze due to prolonged exposure to the cold wave below minus 10 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, according to Incheon City, from 9 p.m. on the 23rd to 7 p.m. on the 25th, a total of 210 cold wave-related damage reports were received by the city’s waterworks headquarters and fire authorities in Incheon.

Among these, 201 reports were related to frozen water pipes or water meters, while the remaining included 7 requests for icicle removal and 2 cases of wind damage.
