Despite increased mobility population escaping the impact of COVID-19, delivery demand rises due to cold wave and staying home
Manna Corporation's delivery agency brand, Manna Plus, announced that the number of deliveries during the recent Lunar New Year holiday period increased by 13.6% compared to the previous year.
During the four-day holiday period from the 21st (Sunday) to the 24th (Tuesday), the total number of deliveries reached approximately 1.8 million, marking the highest volume during the Lunar New Year holidays in the past three years. Compared to last year's Lunar New Year holiday (January 30 to February 2, a total of four days), both the total number of deliveries and the daily volume increased.
In particular, on the 24th, when a cold wave swept across the country, the daily delivery count reached about 560,000, the highest demand during the holiday period. This represents a significant increase of up to 30% compared to a week earlier.
According to officials, the reason is attributed to many people choosing to stay home due to the cold wave warning issued amid the coldest weather this winter, with temperatures dropping as low as minus 23 degrees Celsius. Additionally, on the last day of the short holiday, many people opted to rest at home with delivery food rather than engage in outdoor activities to prepare for returning to daily life, which also influenced the increase in delivery numbers.
A representative from Manna Plus stated, “Despite the Lunar New Year holiday seeing a 28.9% increase in average daily movement to 5.57 million people compared to last year, delivery demand actually increased. As delivery has already become fully established as a culture, consumer demand and the overall market size are expected to be steadily maintained.”
