The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 27th at midnight that 31,711 new COVID-19 cases were added, bringing the cumulative total to 30,107,363.
The number of new confirmed cases on this day decreased by 3,385 from the previous day (35,096), when testing surged after the Lunar New Year holiday. However, compared to a week ago on the 20th (27,408), it increased by 4,303. This marks two consecutive days of increase following the first rise in cases in 30 days compared to the previous week.
The health authorities predicted that the number of confirmed cases could temporarily increase due to increased movement during the Lunar New Year holiday.
Among the new confirmed cases, 49 were imported from overseas.
The number of critically ill patients currently hospitalized is 481, which is 8 fewer than the previous day. The number of critically ill patients has remained in the 400s for 10 consecutive days.
There were 36 additional new deaths from COVID-19. The cumulative death toll stands at 33,332, with a fatality rate of 0.11%.
As of midnight on this day, the additional vaccination rate is 34.6% for those aged 60 and over, and 62.0% for infection-vulnerable facilities.
