Only 11 Male Elementary Teacher Passers
All 10 Kindergarten Teachers Are Female
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] This year, 166 teachers for public kindergartens, elementary schools, and special schools of the same level in Seoul were finally selected, with the percentage of male elementary school teachers falling to single digits.
On the 27th, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced the final successful candidates for the 2023 academic year public (national) kindergarten, elementary school, and special school (kindergarten and elementary) teacher recruitment competitive examination on its website.
The total number of final successful candidates this year was 166 (164 public, 2 national), selected through the first exam (teaching essay and curriculum) and the second exam (in-depth interview on teaching aptitude and teaching demonstration, etc.).
Among the successful candidates, 103 elementary school teachers, accounting for 90.4%, were female, while only 11 males passed, representing 9.6%. This is a 1 percentage point decrease from last year (10.6%).
For kindergarten teachers, all 10 successful candidates were female, with no male candidates passing.
For special schools, 10 candidates passed for the kindergarten level and 30 for the elementary level, with 1 male passing in the kindergarten category and 2 males in the elementary category.
National schools conducted the entire first and second exams on behalf of Korea Woojin School upon their request, and 2 candidates for special schools (elementary) were finally selected.
The successful candidates will receive pre-appointment job training to adapt to the educational field. The kindergarten and special (kindergarten) categories will complete training remotely and in groups from March 1 to 13, and the elementary and special (elementary) categories from March 2 to 14. Afterward, they will be appointed as new teachers starting March 1 according to the teacher supply plan.
Meanwhile, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education plans to announce the final successful candidates for the secondary school teacher recruitment exam on its website at 10 a.m. on the 7th.
