Jeongeup-si Presents 'Hwarang Military Merit Medal' to Families of War Veterans

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City, Jeonbuk Province, announced on the 26th that it presented the Hwarang Military Merit Medal to the bereaved families of the late war veterans Jeong Younghwan and Lee Guibok.


The Hwarang Military Merit Medal is the fourth highest military decoration of the Republic of Korea, awarded to war heroes who participated in battles or wartime for the country, or who demonstrated dedication and distinguished achievements in equivalent emergency situations.

The late Jeong Younghwan was recognized for his military merit in the Battle of Bihosan in Pyeongnam, and the late Lee Guibok was recognized for his merit in the Battle of Geumhwaji District in Gangwon, making them recipients of the military merit medal after more than 70 years.


This medal awarding was conducted as part of the "Finding the Owners of the 6.25 War Military Merit Medal Project," which seeks to discover veterans who were designated as recipients of the military merit medal during the Korean War but have not yet received the medal.


Mayor Lee Haksoo said, "I am pleased to finally be able to present the military merit medal to the bereaved families of veterans who dedicated themselves to the country," and added, "We will continue to remember the noble spirit of the war veterans and strive to improve the respect and welfare of the families of veterans."
