Compared to 1.3352 trillion KRW in 2019, before the outbreak of COVID-19, it has recovered to 72% of that level. Interpark expects a steep growth trend this year as well, as the movement to resume overseas travel became clear from the fourth quarter of last year. The airline ticket sales amount in the fourth quarter of last year was 348.5 billion KRW, accounting for 36% of the total sales for the year, and increased by 9% compared to the same period in 2019.

By route, short-distance destinations such as Southeast Asia (46%) and Japan (27%) accounted for 73% of the total. The popularity ranking of overseas cities was led by Osaka, Japan (7.9%), followed by Bangkok, Thailand (7.6%), Tokyo, Japan (7.5%), Fukuoka (6.2%), and Da Nang, Vietnam (5.0%).

Park Jeong-hyun, Head of Interpark’s Airline Business Division, said, "As the demand for overseas travel, which has been restrained for over two years, exploded from the fourth quarter of last year, we recorded the highest performance level in the travel industry," adding, "We will solidify our position as the number one airline ticket platform even in the endemic era."
