Busan Gijang-gun "Receive Coastal Marine Environment Information via KakaoTalk"

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Busan Gijang-gun Fisheries Resources Research Center (Gijang Research Center) is operating a 'Fishery Environment Monitoring Alert Service' to respond to climate change and support a stable aquaculture system for aquaculture fishermen.

In 2019, the Gijang Research Center secured about 200 million KRW in national funds after being selected for the 'Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Fisheries u-IT Convergence Modeling Project' and installed marine observation buoys at three coastal sites in Gijang, Ilgwang, and Jangan.

Since then, the fishery environment monitoring system was finally completed in October 2021, and after a pilot operation, the alert service is now officially in operation.

Users of the alert service can view data on water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, and sunlight by sea area (Gijang, Ilgwang, Jangan) and by depth at a glance, and can conveniently set the desired time to receive the information.

To apply for the service, visit the Gijang Research Center website and click the Marine Environment Information SMS Application menu at the bottom right. After administrator approval, the service can be used from the next day.

A representative of the Gijang Research Center said, “Recently, changes in the marine environment of Gijang, such as water temperature fluctuations, have become difficult to predict compared to the past, so collecting marine environment information to respond in real time to climate change is very important for the local fisheries industry,” and added, “We will do our best to promptly provide high-quality marine environment information to local fishermen.”
