Na Kyungwon: "I Will Step Down Bravely... Wishing for Yoon's True Success"

Press Conference at People Power Party Headquarters
"Stepping Aside Is Also Moving Forward"
The Party Needs the Vitality of Disorder

[Asia Economy, reporters Lee Hyunju and Kim Youngwon] Former lawmaker Na Kyungwon officially announced on the 25th that she would not run in the People Power Party’s March 8 convention.

On this day, at the People Power Party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, Na held a press conference and stated, “If stepping down can prevent public concern over our party’s division and confusion, and help us return to unity and harmony, I will do so bravely.”

She continued, “Now, in the spirit of putting the party before oneself and seeking harmony among people, I intend to embark on a long journey toward a new future and solidarity, together with all citizens and party members, in pursuit of our shared dreams and vision. If my stepping aside today can shine a light on our collective future, I believe that too is a step forward.”

She added, “In 2019, our party members and the public created the possibility of a change in government both in the National Assembly and in public squares across the country, including Gwanghwamun Square, paving the way for the birth of the Yoon Sukyeol administration. I will fulfill my duty as an ‘eternal party member’ so that the People Power Party can do even better and regain the trust of more citizens.”

Na further stated, “I will uphold the honor of Korea’s traditional conservative party. Achieving a change in government was difficult. We must not let this precious opportunity to restore people’s livelihoods, reestablish the rule of law, and set the constitutional order right slip away in vain.”

She emphasized, “A political party is the very root of liberal democracy. Let us never give up on inclusion and respect. Rather than orderly helplessness, we need the vitality that comes from disorder.”

She also wished for “a healthy People Power Party and the true success of the Yoon Sukyeol administration.”
