[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Amid rising tensions over Iran's nuclear program, the United States and Israel launched the largest joint exercise ever in the Mediterranean Sea on the 24th (local time).

According to major foreign media, the name of this joint military exercise is 'Juniper Oak 23.2.' Both countries' army, navy, and air force participate in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, deploying more than 140 aircraft and 12 warships.

It is reported to include fighter jets such as F-35, F-15, and F-16, as well as B-52 strategic bombers, aerial refueling aircraft, and AH-64 Apache helicopters.

The participating forces total about 7,500, including approximately 6,400 U.S. troops and 1,100 Israeli troops, making it one of the largest joint exercises between the U.S. and its allies.

Michael Kurilla, commander of the U.S. Central Command, which oversees the Middle East and North Africa, said, "This is part of regular training between Central Command and its allies," adding, "It is important for enhancing interoperability and military capabilities and maintaining security and stability in the region."
