[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] On the last day of the Lunar New Year holiday, the 24th, severe weather conditions such as heavy snow and strong winds continued, causing vehicle accidents and damage to facilities.


At around 2:14 PM that day, two passenger cars collided near Gangjin in the direction of Suncheon on the Namhaean Expressway at Yeongam. Earlier, at around 1:59 PM, one passenger car slipped on a snowy road in the direction of Muan on the Muan-Gwangju Expressway, causing one lane of the two lanes to be closed.


There were no casualties from these accidents, but the series of incidents caused some traffic congestion.


At around 8:08 AM, a passenger car slipped on a snowy road near Hampyeong Interchange on the Seoul-bound side of the Seohaean Expressway, and at around 9:15 AM, another passenger car slipped on the snowy road at the 95 km point in the direction of Mokpo on the downward lane of the Seohaean Expressway near Buan.


Damage from strong winds also occurred. At around 9:21 AM, a report was received from Jusam-dong, Yeosu City, that a traffic light was about to fall due to strong winds. Reports of damage to building roofs due to strong winds were also received from Muan-eup, Muan-gun, and Beolgyo-eup, Boseong-gun.


At the pier in Sinwol-dong, Yeosu City, at around 5:57 AM that day, mooring ropes (ship securing ropes) were cut by strong winds, causing eight docked fishing boats to drift.


On the previous day (the 23rd), a fire broke out in a snow removal vehicle parked at the Haenam branch office of the Land Management Office, leading to an urgent request for snow removal vehicles to prepare for the heavy snowfall.


At around 8:20 AM on the 23rd, a 119 ambulance transporting a patient and returning in Mokpo City, Jeollanam-do, was hit by a passenger car, injuring three paramedics. On the same day at around 11:47 AM, a collision accident occurred in Gangjin, resulting in two people sustaining serious injuries, among other various traffic accidents.


Meanwhile, fires during the holiday also appeared as unwelcome guests in the new year, leaving troubles behind. On the 22nd, a fire broke out at a brush factory in Muan, causing property damage, and wildfires and grass fires occurred consecutively on the 21st in Goheung and on the 23rd in reclaimed land and reed fields in Haenam.
