[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The late Kang Soo-yeon's final work, the Netflix film "Jung-E," has maintained the global No. 1 spot for three consecutive days since its release.
According to FlixPatrol, an online content service ranking site, "Jung-E" ranked first globally in the Netflix TV program category as of the 23rd (local time).
By country, it ranked No. 1 in 48 countries including South Korea, France, Egypt, Hong Kong, and Luxembourg. The evaluation score based on country rankings was 813 points, far surpassing the 348 points of the second-place "Knives Out: Glass Onion."
Released on the 20th, "Jung-E" is a new work by director Yeon Sang-ho, who directed the film "Train to Busan" and the Netflix series "Hellbound." The story depicts people trying to end a war that broke out in a shelter where they migrated after Earth was devastated by climate change by cloning the brain of the legendary mercenary Jung-E to develop the ultimate combat A.I.
The work is also the final project of Kang Soo-yeon, who suddenly passed away in May last year. Kang Soo-yeon played Seo-hyun, the head of the research team who participated in the Jung-E project and could not hide her emotional turmoil while watching Jung-E.
Kim Hyun-joo took on the role of Jung-E, the elite leader of the allied forces who has a daughter. Jung-E is a character who becomes a vegetative state due to an accident during combat and is developed into an A.I. through brain cloning technology. Additionally, Ryu Kyung-soo, who left a strong impression in the director’s previous work "Hellbound," played Sang-hoon, the head of the Chronoid Research Institute leading the project.
