[Asia Economy Reporter Seo Mideum] Director Hong Sangsoo's new film 'Mul Aneseo' (In Water) has been selected for the Encounters section at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival to be held next month. Encounters, established in 2020, is a section that selects innovative works similar to Cannes Film Festival's 'Un Certain Regard'.

The Berlin International Film Festival Executive Committee announced sixteen films selected for the Encounters section, including 'Mul Aneseo', at a press conference held in Berlin, Germany on the 23rd (local time).

Carlo Chatrian, the artistic director of the festival, said, "Director Hong Sangsoo needs no introduction," and introduced "'Mul Aneseo' as having his usual simplicity but adopting a much more intense approach."

Known as a "regular at the Berlin International Film Festival," Director Hong first entered the festival with 'Night and Day' (2008) and has since competed six times in the competition section. Among them, he received awards for 'On the Beach at Night Alone' (Silver Bear Actress Award), 'The Woman Who Ran' (Silver Bear Directing Award), 'Introduction' (Silver Bear Screenplay Award), and 'The Novelist's Film' (Silver Bear Jury Prize).

The Berlin International Film Festival is considered one of the world's top three film festivals alongside Cannes and Venice. This year's festival will be held from the 16th to the 26th of next month.
