Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, Realizes High-Quality Public Childcare Unique to Songpa-gu That Can Be Trusted
Seogang-seok, Mayor of Songpa District, is greeting childcare teachers at the 'Public and National Childcare Center Caregiver Job Training' site on November 2nd last year.
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it will significantly expand quality meal support and improve treatment for childcare staff to create a stable childcare environment unique to Songpa-gu that can be trusted.
Songpa-gu has 333 childcare centers, the highest number of childcare workers and infants and toddlers among the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul. The district plans to provide meticulous, high-quality childcare services tailored to diverse childcare needs.
Accordingly, starting this year, the district will actively improve the treatment of childcare teachers by ▲ increasing the snack expense support for childcare centers ▲ raising welfare expenses, holiday leave pay, and long-term service allowance for childcare staff, thereby creating a happy and stable childcare environment.
First, to promote the healthy growth of infants and toddlers in the area, the district will significantly increase the snack expense support from 10,000 KRW to 25,000 KRW per child per month enrolled in childcare centers. This will eliminate the gap between childcare center snack expenses and free meal support for kindergartens, dramatically improving the quality of snacks for infants and toddlers in childcare centers.
Also, under the motto "Happy teachers make happy children," the district plans to boost the morale of childcare staff and enhance the professionalism of their duties and satisfaction with childcare services by expanding improvements in the treatment of childcare teachers.
Welfare expenses will be expanded to include an additional 230 people such as cooks and nurses, increasing the support amount from 80,000 KRW to 90,000 KRW. The holiday leave pay support will also add 1,000 people including assistant teachers, raising the support amount from 30,000 KRW to 40,000 KRW.
Furthermore, the long-term service allowance will expand support to an additional 170 people, including teacher-staff managers and Seoul-type homeroom teachers, increasing the support amount from 20,000 KRW to 30,000 KRW, thereby strengthening childcare teacher capabilities through practical treatment improvements.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “We aim to provide high-quality public childcare services through active treatment improvements to boost the morale of childcare teachers who fulfill their duties despite difficult conditions,” and added, “We will create a stable childcare environment where infants and toddlers, the future leaders of Songpa-gu, can grow up healthy and happy.”
