Gwangjin-gu Supports Moving Expenses of 400,000 KRW for Low-Income Residents

Gwangjin-gu Supports Moving Expenses of 400,000 KRW for Low-Income Residents Kim Kyung-ho, the mayor of Gwangjin District, is helping with the move.

From 200,000 to 400,000 KRW, Lease Contract Date to Move-in Report Date… Expansion of Support Amount and Criteria

Targeting households receiving basic livelihood and medical security, where all household members have moved into Gwangjin-gu

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will support moving expenses for low-income residents up to 400,000 KRW starting this year.

The "Moving Expense Support" program, initiated last year to alleviate the economic burden of low-income residents and support aspects closely related to daily life, provided assistance to a total of 270 households.

This year, based on the 2022 project satisfaction survey results, improvements have been made, and the support amount and criteria have been expanded and changed for the "Moving Expense Support" program.

First, reflecting residents' opinions who wanted the support amount to be more realistic, the support amount was increased from 200,000 KRW to 400,000 KRW.

Also, since the support criteria were based on the "lease contract date," there were cases where households that signed contracts in 2021 were ineligible for support. Therefore, the criteria were changed from "lease contract date" to "move-in report date" to allow more households to receive support.

The eligible recipients must be "households receiving national basic livelihood and medical security" and "households where all members moved into Gwangjin-gu after January 1, 2023." ▲ Facility recipients (group homes, residents of care facilities) ▲ Medical aid recipients under other laws ▲ Households that moved out of the district or partially moved in ▲ Households that have already received moving expense support from Seoul City or other autonomous districts are excluded.

This project supports actual moving costs such as transportation and labor fees and can be received only once every two years. Applications must be submitted within 60 days after the move-in report. Households that moved in during 2022 are eligible for support up to 200,000 KRW based on last year's criteria.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "This support program was prepared to provide practical help to low-income households who must move but find the costs burdensome," adding, "We hope it will contribute even a little to the stability of low-income residents' lives."
