1st Anniversary Achievements of the Online Integrated Market App Launch
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Busan City announced that its public delivery app ‘Dongbaektong,’ launched on January 19 last year, has shown continuous growth, achieving cumulative sales of 4.2 billion KRW as of its 1st anniversary, with about 8,000 affiliated stores and over 230,000 app downloads.
In the rapidly changing distribution environment centered on non-face-to-face sales channels after COVID-19, the city launched Dongbaektong on January 19 last year to help small business owners struggling with excessive fees and advertising costs in the private delivery app market, which has formed a monopoly system, expand their online sales channels.
Dongbaektong is the nation’s first online integrated market app encompassing food and beverage stores, traditional markets, and local company product shopping malls. It operates under a basic policy of zero (ZERO) membership fees, advertising fees, and brokerage commissions for small business owners joining the platform.
It has received great response as a new alternative for small business owners who had been reluctantly using private delivery apps, steadily increasing monthly sales and the number of affiliated stores, thereby growing its presence.
Additionally, to provide various benefits to consumers, the app continuously offers a total of 10% cashback, including an additional 5% refund when paying with the local currency Dongbaekjeon recharge funds. To alleviate citizens’ difficulties amid rising grocery prices, seasonal marketing and promotional events are actively planned, such as a 3,000 KRW discount coupon event during the Lunar New Year holiday period (January 21 to 24).
This year, the city aims to actively recruit franchise and other affiliated stores, diversify product categories, and prioritize enhancing consumer benefits, targeting 12,000 affiliated stores and cumulative sales exceeding 15 billion KRW by the end of the year.
By linking with various franchise companies and implementing differentiated strategies such as promoting local neighborhood stores, the city plans to widely publicize Dongbaektong and lead its successful establishment.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “Dongbaektong will be an opportunity to expand online sales channels for local small business owners who are struggling due to recent high interest rates and inflation,” adding, “We will do our best to strengthen online shopping functions on Dongbaektong and conduct various consumer discount events linked with Busan City policies to establish it as a good consumption platform,” and asked for much interest.
Dongbaektong is continuously recruiting affiliated stores, and applications can be submitted through the Dongbaektong website. For more details, visit the website or contact the Dongbaektong service center.
