Yongin City Museum Receives Government Public Museum Certification

[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Yongin City Museum in Gyeonggi-do has received certification as a public museum.

On the 20th, Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced that the Yongin City Museum, located in Jung-dong, Giheung-gu, was selected as a certified institution in the '2022 Public Museum Evaluation Certification' hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The Public Museum Evaluation Certification is an evaluation system operated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to improve the operational standards of public museums nationwide and enhance services for the public.

Public museums that have been registered for more than three years are subject to evaluation, which is conducted every three years. It was first introduced in 2017, and the evaluation was suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19.

The Yongin City Museum was renamed from the Yongin Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall to the Yongin City Museum in 2018 and was selected as a certified institution in its first evaluation.

The museum received perfect scores in facility management and collection acquisition, and high scores in exhibition, research, artifact collection and management, and education. By being selected as a certified institution, it has qualified for national funding support when relocating, constructing, or expanding the museum. The certification period lasts until December 2025. Yongin City plans to pursue re-certification in 2025.

A city official stated, "It is a great achievement that the Yongin City Museum was selected as a certified institution in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism evaluation on its first attempt," and added, "The city will continue to do its best to develop various museum contents that all citizens can enjoy."
