Recruitment of Participants for the ‘2023 Jungnangcheon Urban Agriculture Experience Learning Center’ from the 20th to February 3rd

Applications available on Dongdaemun-gu website; final selection results announced in March... Participation fee is 10,000 KRW

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) is recruiting participants for the ‘2023 Jungnangcheon Urban Agriculture Experience Learning Center’ from the 20th to February 3rd to provide residents with the opportunity to experience eco-friendly crop cultivation.

Opened in 2013, the ‘Jungnangcheon Urban Agriculture Experience Learning Center’ has gradually expanded its scale and brings the joy of harvest to residents. The experience center operates from April to the end of November, and this year, the number of garden plots has been increased by 27 compared to last year, offering a total of 927 plots (approximately 4.5㎡ per plot) to residents.

To allow various groups of residents to experience urban agriculture, recruitment is divided into categories for seniors, people with disabilities, multicultural families, and others. The recruitment fields and number of participants are ▲General 460 ▲60 years and older 412 ▲People with disabilities 45 ▲Multicultural families 10, totaling 927 participants across four categories. To enable more participants to experience urban agriculture, only one application per household in one category is allowed.

Any Dongdaemun-gu resident can participate. Residents wishing to join can apply from the 20th to February 3rd through the resident participation section on the Dongdaemun-gu website. The participation fee is 10,000 KRW.

If the number of applicants exceeds the recruitment quota, participants will be selected through a computerized lottery. The final selection results will be posted on the district website and individually notified in March.

The district will support participants by providing leafy vegetable seedlings, pest control, watering facilities, and fertilization to facilitate farming. Soil and crop heavy metal contamination levels will be regularly tested to help produce safe food.

Additionally, starting this year, a ‘Band room’ will be opened when the experience center opens, and a resident suggestion board and information boards will be installed to strengthen communication with participants.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “The ‘Jungnangcheon Urban Agriculture Experience Learning Center,’ loved by residents, is recruiting new participants ahead of its opening, so we ask for your great interest and participation.”
