Founded in 2017, the Maeumi-eum Talent Volunteer Group is a communication and healing-type volunteer group aimed at solving the increasingly prominent issue of elderly isolation, with about 100 members accompanying lonely elderly people in the district with warm companionship.
The members receive volunteer activity capacity-building education every year through expert invitations and meetings, and add professionalism and systematization to their volunteer activities by signing a business agreement with the Gwangyang Jungma Senior Welfare Center.
In addition, they practice a culture of sharing to continue warm companionship with the elderly through local outings, movie viewing events, and birthday gift-giving for the elderly.
During the two-day schedule, the Maeumi-eum Talent Volunteer Group met about 60 elderly people and shared the happiness of giving.
The elderly who received holiday kits consisting of fruits, snacks, and other refreshments from the volunteers expressed their gratitude in response.
Hong Jong-in, head of the Maeumi-eum Talent Volunteer Group, said, "Amid the peak of winter cold, I hope the elderly can spend this Lunar New Year warmly and abundantly," adding, "We will continue to think endlessly about ways to help the local community together with our members."
