[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, Seoul, attended the ‘Children’s Participation Committee Appointment Ceremony and Policy Report Meeting’ held in the morning of the 19th at the district office’s main conference room to encourage the child committee members.
On this day, Mayor Kim awarded certificates of commendation to five outstanding members of the 6th term and newly appointed the 7th term Children’s Participation Committee members, cheering them on for a strong start.
The district has been organizing and operating the Children’s Participation Committee to actively reflect the voices of children, the stakeholders, in the establishment of child policies.
At the policy report meeting held that day, the 6th term Children’s Participation Committee members shared the activities they carried out over the past year to ensure children’s basic rights.
Additionally, committee members from each division, including youth environment, educational welfare, human rights, and youth rights, proposed child policies to the district office and the education support office.
Key proposed policies included ▲expansion of programs for career planning ▲introduction of rainbow trays with marked scales ▲operation of professional and practical sex education ▲implementation of a free semester system reflecting children’s opinions, all aimed at enhancing children’s educational welfare and guaranteeing their rights.
Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “I hope you will continue to propose various opinions to guarantee children’s basic rights and promote their welfare,” adding, “We will actively reflect the proposed contents in district administration and do our best to make Gangseo a great place to raise children.”
Meanwhile, the district has established itself as a city where children can live well by obtaining UNICEF Child-Friendly City certification and, in November last year, acquiring the higher-level certification.
