On the same day, former lawmaker Na issued a press release under the name 'Former Floor Leader Na Kyung-won,' expressing "considerable regret over the ruthless attacks extending even to family" and stated, "Mayor Hong must clearly take responsibility for those remarks."

The day before, Mayor Hong targeted former lawmaker Na and her husband on his Facebook, saying, "If a couple supports each other not in a positive sense but solely out of ambition for advancement, that is truly problematic," adding, "For the sake of their respective positions, if a couple uses all means to achieve what others find difficult to attain even individually, aiming for the highest positions each, it might be understandable if they were the Clinton couple in the United States, who were exceptional people with different ethical standards, but it is difficult to accept in Korean society."

In response, Mayor Hong again fired a direct shot on the day, saying, "Although there are many recommendations around me not to make unnecessary enemies, I can no longer tolerate those who have everything becoming greedier and those born with a silver spoon manipulating the world with false dignity and hypocrisy."
