A man who got out of his car parked in front of a hillside after receiving a call from his girlfriend narrowly escaped with his life, drawing attention.

On the 15th (local time), CNN in the United States reported the story of Mauricio Henao, a "lucky man" who narrowly avoided a rockfall accident. Henao was able to save his life thanks to a phone call from his girlfriend.

Henao was sitting in the driver's seat of his car parked by the roadside in front of his house, taking a short break before departure. At that moment, he received a call from his girlfriend. She asked Henao to check a bag she had left at home. Henao got out of the car and went back into the house to fulfill his girlfriend’s request.

While searching for the bag inside the house, Henao heard the sound of something rolling down and a massive crash. Startled, he rushed outside and realized that his car had been completely destroyed by rocks that had fallen from the hillside above the road. It was the very spot where Henao had been resting just moments before.

The 1.2-meter-sized rock fell onto the roof of the vehicle. The roof, directly hit by the rockfall, could not withstand the impact and collapsed down to the driver's seat. If Henao had been in the driver's seat, he could have suffered fatal injuries.

In an interview with CNN, Henao sincerely thanked his girlfriend, who had called at just the right moment to save his life, and stated that he would never park by the roadside in front of his house again. CNN reported that the rockfall that struck Henao’s vehicle was caused by a record-breaking storm that has been sweeping across California for three weeks.

Besides the rock that hit Henao’s car, another large rock that fell nearby struck a BMW parked close by, shattering its rear window. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
