[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lim Tae-hee, Superintendent of Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, stated that discrimination in meals between daycare center and kindergarten children is wrong and pledged to eliminate such discrimination by securing a separate budget. He also promised to significantly strengthen character education within schools to protect student rights and teacher authority. Furthermore, he added that school autonomous meal programs will be conducted by reflecting the opinions of school members as much as possible.


On the 17th, Superintendent Lim held the "2023 New Year Press Conference" at the Southern Office of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education in Jangan-gu, Suwon, saying, "The past period was a time to create the blueprint for new Gyeonggi education and lay the foundation," and emphasized, "This year, we will strive to properly implement the planned initiatives so that the changes in education can be felt."


He continued, "Schools are the center of education where teachers and students carry out the curriculum together in the classroom," and stressed, "To actively support schools, we will expand education utilizing edutech and establish a regional education cooperation system to move toward future education."


Regarding meal discrimination, he said, "It is not right that there is discrimination in meals for daycare and kindergarten children," and added, "We will first secure funding through the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education budget and work with related departments and local governments to resolve financial issues."


On student rights and teacher authority issues, he stated, "Teacher authority is as important as student rights, and we will prepare educational measures to resolve conflicts within schools as much as possible," emphasizing, "For this, character education is fundamentally important, so we will systematically establish and operate character education programs appropriate to each growth stage."


Regarding student autonomous meal plans, he explained, "When we surveyed students, they valued the taste, quantity, and time of meals the most," and said, "We will continue to monitor student satisfaction and discuss with school members to ensure the quality and taste of meals."


Finally, Superintendent Lim promised, "The goal to nurture future talents equipped with basics and fundamentals based on autonomy, balance, and future orientation is clear," and pledged, "We will work hard to create Gyeonggi education where changes can be felt in students, teachers, and schools."
