Stock Settlement Amount Decreased by 26% Year-on-Year Last Year Due to Stock Market Slump

Stock Settlement Amount 375.5 Trillion Won... Average Daily Stock Settlement Amount 1.5 Trillion Won

[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] Last year, the total amount of stock settlement payments through the Korea Securities Depository was 375.5 trillion won, a 26.5% decrease compared to the previous year (510.8 trillion won). The average daily stock settlement payment also decreased from 2.1 trillion won to 1.5 trillion won.

The total settlement amount for all on-market stocks was 4,686.6 trillion won, of which the settlement amount excluding the multilateral netting amount (4,517.2 trillion won) was 169.4 trillion won. This represents a 28% decrease compared to last year (235.1 trillion won).

The total stock settlement amount for institutional investors was 2,318.8 trillion won, and the settlement amount excluding the multilateral netting amount (2,157.7 trillion won) was 206.1 trillion won, a 25.2% decrease during the same period.

The Depository explained, “Due to the netting effect through securities settlement services, market participants can complete securities settlements with minimal funds,” adding, “The reduction in settlement scale helps reduce liquidity risk and contributes to enhancing the stability of the securities market.”
