Lotto 2 Billion Won Winner Never Shows Up... Full Amount Reverts to National Treasury

First Prize Must Be Claimed Within One Year
Second Prize for the Same Draw Also Unclaimed

The first-prize winner of the Lotto draw held last January never came forward. The prize money of 2 billion KRW was reverted to the national treasury (Lottery Fund).


According to the lottery operator Donghaeng Lottery on the 17th, the first-prize winner of the 998th Lotto draw (held on January 15 last year) ultimately did not claim the prize money of 2,076,490,000 KRW. As the deadline for claiming the prize, which was until the previous day, passed, the entire prize money was transferred to the national treasury.

The winning numbers at the time were '13, 17, 18, 20, 42, 45', and there were 12 lucky winners who matched all six numbers (11 automatic, 1 manual). The unclaimed first-prize Lotto ticket was sold at a retailer in Jeonju, Jeonbuk.


The second-prize winnings for the same draw also remain unclaimed. The second-prize amount at that time was 78,358,478 KRW, with the bonus number '41'. The ticket was sold at a lottery retailer located in Dong-gu, Busan.


Meanwhile, two second-prize winners from the 1000th Lotto draw held on January 29 last year have also not yet claimed their prize money. The winning numbers were '2, 8, 19, 22, 32, 42' with the bonus number '39'. The prize money was 41,921,945 KRW, and the tickets were sold at lottery retailers in Gwangju and Daegu, respectively. The deadline for claiming the prize is February 2.


Lotto first-prize winnings must be claimed within one year from the start date of payment. Prize money unclaimed after the deadline is fully reverted to the Lottery Fund according to the Lottery and Lottery Fund Act and is used for public welfare projects supporting vulnerable groups.
