Gwangju Buk-gu Supports Meal Programs for Children at Risk of Food Insecurity Ahead of Lunar New Year

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is implementing support measures for child meals at risk of food deprivation during the Lunar New Year holiday period.

The support targets 4,989 children at risk of food deprivation from low-income households and single-parent families within the district.

Before the holiday, the child meal cards of children at risk of food deprivation will be recharged, and the locations and contact information of 4,952 affiliated child meal stores will be provided on the district and neighborhood websites.

For children at risk of food deprivation who find it difficult to use affiliated stores and wish to have lunchboxes delivered, substitute foods such as yakbap and rice jjajangmyeon will be delivered and provided before the holiday.

Additionally, for children using meals at local children's centers, new child meal cards will be issued if they meet the support conditions to prevent meal gaps caused by the closure of local children's centers.

In particular, hygiene and delivery preparation of substitute foods will be inspected, and an emergency duty task force will be operated during the Lunar New Year holiday to ensure that support for children at risk of food deprivation is not overlooked, with thorough preparations.

On the 17th, Moon In, head of Buk-gu Office, said, "This measure was prepared to ensure that children do not skip meals during the Lunar New Year holiday," and added, "We will do our best to support child meals so that children at risk of food deprivation are not left out and can have a warm Lunar New Year holiday."
