Affordable phone location tracking becomes easier... Pilot operation of data transmission system begins

Affordable phone location tracking becomes easier... Pilot operation of data transmission system begins

The Communication Investigation Data Transmission and Reception System is a computerized system that automates the work process from data request to response based on QR codes. Until now, budget phone carriers have responded manually to police data requests due to the lack of a computerized system. Moreover, there were clear limitations as many did not have staff on duty during nights and holidays. The police expect that with the development of this system, rapid data acquisition will be possible without additional personnel deployment at budget phone carriers.

The number of budget phone carrier subscribers reached 12.63 million as of November last year, accounting for 16.4% of all wireless communication users. However, the police explained that there was no established system for securing investigation data on these users, causing difficulties in rescue or investigation involving budget phone carrier users. To address this issue, the police have been developing the Communication Investigation Data Transmission and Reception System for budget phone carriers since 2020.

A National Police Agency official stated, "Through this project, just like subscribers of the three major telecom companies, it has become possible to secure related data on budget phone carrier users without time restrictions," and added, "We will continue to make our best efforts to build a flawless public safety network to create a society where citizens can feel secure."
